Post Cat & Adult Dog Vaccines Precaution Care

Manage Discomfort

Monitor for Side Effects

Observe Behavior

Watch your pet closely for 24-48 hours after vaccination for any signs of side effects or adverse reactions.

Common Reactions

Mild lethargy, slight fever, and reduced appetite are common and should not be alarming. These usual resolve within a day or two.

Swelling at Site of Injection

Some pets might experience discomfort or swelling at the injection site. Gentle petting can help but avoid excessive handling if the area seems sore.

Manage Discomfort

Rest and Quiet Space:
Provide a quiet, comfortable space for your pet to rest. They may be more tired than usual.

Water and Food:
Ensure they have easy access to water. If your pet shows a reduced appetite, you can encourage eating with a small amount of a favorite treat or soft food.

Special Considerations

Check Serious Reactions

Immediate Care

Although it’s rare, watch for signs of severe allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or legs, severe vomiting or diarrhea, or collapse. If any of these occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Preventive Care

Avoid Bathing:
Wait a few days before bathing your pet or allowing it to swim to ensure the injection site is fully healed.

Limit Intense Activity:
Keep your pet’s activity level low for a day or two after vaccination to reduce stress on their system.

Scheduled Booster Appointment:
Adhere to any follow-up appointments or booster schedules provided by your vet to ensure ongoing protection.

Special Considerations

Multi-Pet Households

Keep recently vaccinated pets separate from other pets, if possible, to prevent rough play that might irritate the injection site.

Communication with Your Vet

Report Side Effects Inform your veterinarian of any reactions your pet experiences, even if they seem minor. This information is important for your pet’s medical record and future vaccine considerations

FAQs

What affordable dog vaccines do they need annually?

Dogs require annual vaccinations for:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Adenovirus

We'll tailor the affordable dog vaccines schedule based on your pet’s exposure risk and health history.

At what age can my puppy start getting vaccinated?

Puppies can start receiving vaccinations at 6 weeks of age, with boosters every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. Schedule adult dog vaccines today.

Can my cat get vaccinated if he is sick?

We recommend waiting until your cat has fully recovered before receiving any vaccinations. Our vets will conduct a thorough health check to ensure they are ready.

How often should my dog and cat get a rabies vaccine?

The frequency of rabies vaccination can vary by state law and vaccine type. Generally, after the initial vaccine, a booster is needed in 1 year, then every 3 years. Call (619) 475-3000 to consult.

Is vaccination necessary?

Yes, vaccinations are crucial in protecting your dog and cat from various contagious and potentially fatal diseases.

What should I do if my pet reacts to a vaccine?

If you notice any concerning symptoms after vaccination, contact us immediately for guidance and care.

What is the difference between core and non-core vaccines?

Core vaccines are recommended for all dogs due to the severity of the diseases they protect against. These include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus. Non-core vaccines, such as those for bordetella (kennel cough) and leptospirosis, are given based on a dog's lifestyle and risk exposure.

Can older dogs start a vaccination schedule if they’ve never been vaccinated?

Absolutely. Older dogs can still benefit from vaccinations, even if they have never been vaccinated before. We start with a health assessment to determine the best approach and schedule for their vaccinations.

Is it safe to vaccinate a pregnant dog or cat?

Vaccinating pregnant pets is generally not recommended

What should I do if I miss my dog’s booster shot?

If you miss a booster, it’s important to reschedule as soon as possible. Depending on how long it's been, our vets might recommend restarting the vaccination series to ensure full protection.

Can vaccinations cause allergies?

Vaccinations can cause allergic reactions in some dogs, though this is rare. Symptoms can include:

  • Swelling at the vaccination site
  • Hives
  • Difficulty in breathing

If you notice any allergic symptoms, contact us immediately.

Do affordable cat vaccinations compromise quality?

No. Our affordable cat vaccinations do not compromise quality. Many reputable veterinary clinics and shelters offer affordable services while ensuring that vaccines are administered safely and effectively. Always choose certified facilities for your cat’s vaccinations.
